The state of Maharashtra, Gujarat, the Punjab and a few states of the southern part women wear a bindi. While there are some states in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa, West Bengal and Assam the bindi is the norm for women who are married to wear the red bindi. However, unmarried girls can also put it on.
