Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay is a Californian born in Long beach on 24 August 1972. DuVernay was inspired to follow her passion of art by DuVernay's aunt Denise when she was a girl. Her aunt, a night-shift nurse, allowed her to study literature for art as well as theater during daylight hours. DuVernay was introduced to the 1961 movie West Side Story by her aunt. DuVernay learned that art is a great instrument for political activism. DuVernay was educated by her mother who was a social sassy and pushed DuVernay to express herself through art. While DuVernay grew up in Compton with her family she lived at Lowndes County Alabama where her father's family grew up for generations. DuVernay's Dad recalled seeing the Civil Rights Movement's historic march along the Edmund Pettus Bridge near the town of Selma Alabama. DuVernay would use the summers she spent in Alabama to help inspire her film Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay obtained her Saint Joseph High School diploma in Lakewood California. In the year 1990 she completed her studies at the Saint Joseph High School located in Lakewood CA. DuVernay started producing for broadcast journalism while she was in her university. DuVernay began her career as an intern for CBS News during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembered being told to look at the trash of the home of a juror. In the course of her work she began to feel dissatisfied by journalistic work and entered the public relations industry. DuVernay was hired right out of college as a junior publicist at the studio that was small. She started The DuVernay Agency, her public relations firm in 1999. The agency was the first to launch a variety of promotional and lifestyle networks that include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye. Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16, 1937 - August 17 15th, 2015) was an American actress and ballet dancer popular for her character as Batgirl in the 1960s' TV series Batman as well as her role as the green-skinned Orion slave girl Marta in the Star Trek episode "Whom Gods Destroy" (1969).
